Food and Beverage
Afriplex produces a range of unique extracts and active ingredients from various indigenous plant species in a HACCP approved facility. Utilising engineering and separation technology to develop novel, client-specific products achieve this. Our in-house developed technology allows us to tailor ingredients for the Food, Beverage and Pharmaceutical industries. While products are created, applied and tested in our laboratories, research related to components, active ingredients and nutritional value of various plant species are conducted on an on-going basis. Over the years, Afriplex has developed considerable infrastructure and process knowledge in the fields of extraction and separation technology. Our equipment includes automated thermal and vacuum drying systems, milling equipment, filter press equipment, automated sieving equipment and pasteurization facilities. Furthermore, Afriplex boasts a variety of equipment in the field of separation technology to enable us to produce extracts and compounds tailored for our clients. These include automated steam distillation plants for the production of essential oils, ion exchange facility (IX), activated carbon treatment facility, dissolved air flotation (DAF) as well as a range of membrane separation facilities, the latter including reverse osmosis (RO), nano filtration (NF), ultra filtration (UF) and micro filtration (MF). Currently Afriplex has the capacity to produce 55 tons powder extract, 20 tons ethanol concentrate and 10 tons essential oils per year.
Cosmetic and Pharmaceutical
As a HACCP approved production facility of a range of extracts destined for pharmaceutical and cosmetic applications, Afriplex has formed strategic partnerships with some of the recognized pharmaceutical manufacturers in the country. The partnership has evolved due to the strengths of each of the partners to deliver a quality service to their clients. Afriplex’s contract manufacturing partners have been selected based upon criteria of:
- Certification as a Medical Controlled Council licensed pharmaceutical manufacturer.
- Certification as GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice).
GMP is a certification that is issued by the MCC that monitors, controls and documents the manufacturing process at these facilities. To ensure that the set processing standards are being maintained, the facilities are inspected by the MCC on a ongoing basis.
